Optimalisation of a puddingcup
Campina
Campina is packing it’s pudding in 450 and 750 ml pudding bowls. The pudding bowls are made of PP and are produced by thermoforming. When the bowls were hot-filled they collapsed during stacking. Therefore Campina wanted to optimise the pudding bowl, but the characteristics of the design had to be maintained.
The current bowl has been tested to establish how much force the cup can handle during stacking. The bowl was drawed in a 3D cad program and than computer simulated to find out if the computer simulation gave the same results as the practical test. Based on these results a few new concepts were developed maintaining as much of the characteristics as possible. Than the concept were computer simulated.
The new pudding bowl appeared to be much stronger than the old bowl and was taken into production by Campina.
