Transport packaging
Shell Solar produces solar cells and solar panels. Shell requested Plato to develop an internal transport packaging, which preserves the solar cells during temporary storing in batches.
The designed packaging consists of a container, folded of polypropene canal plate with dividing walls of PUR-foam. Because of the vulnerability of the solar cells, the container has exclusively perpendicular walls and does not release any dust. The packaging is stackable and can be provided with labels

Modular packaging system
Shell Solar was also looking for a transport packaging system for three types of solar panels with five different sizes.
Plato product consultants developed a modular system in which the solar panels can be packed in units of two, four or twelve panels. A system of dimensions is chosen in such a way that the packaging can be composed with as few parts as possible and is adjusted to container transport. Corrugated cardboard corners are used for buffering, they are used to protect the panels from jolting. By using a special folding technic, the cardboard corners are quickly set up. This increases the time for packing and the corners cause less packaging volume. Plato product consultants designed the packaging, selected the suppliers, worked out the technical parts of the packaging and guided the implementation.
